RADIOGRAPHERS SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

RADIOGRAPHERS SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE

The Society of Radiography in Kenya (SORK) was formed in 1962 as a Voluntary Professional Welfare Society. After rigorous training by the colonialists, the radiographers then named it the Association of Radiographers, Kenya abbreviated as (AORK).

This was to act as medium to represent their interests to the Government.

Around the 1970s, they changed the name to Kenya Association of Radiographers (KAR).

However, the Registrar of Societies did NOT formalize this, and hence as per official Government records it was still known as AORK till the 9th of October 2004.

This is when through a Special General meeting attended by over 130 Radiographers at Reef Hotel Mombasa; the Association transformed itself into a Society known as The SOCIETY OF RADIOGRAPHY IN KENYA (SORK) through the adoption of an interim constitution with new modern structures.

This was followed by amendments and ratification at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 26th, 2005 in Nairobi, where new officials were elected.

Incidentally, the training of Radiographers was started in the late 1950s at Port Florence now the Western Kenyan City of Kisumu and over the years matured into a Diploma course in Diagnostic Radiography at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nairobi.

Currently in Kenya Radiographers also train at Bachelors level offered at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT). So far we have about 30% of Radiographers population in Kenya with Bachelors level and above from both locally and international universities. More On History Of RASCO>>>
