Muchui Julius Thambura Currently A Lecturer At University Of Pretoria
Muchui Julius Thambura was born in Meru- Kenya and after his high school education, joined Kenya Medical
Training College joined in 2004. He completed his diploma in Medical imaging sciences in 2007 and in January 2008, he joined University of Johannesburg for a bachelor’s degree in radiography (diagnostics).
He completed his studies within a year and enrolled and registered with Health professional council of South Africa (HPCSA) in 2009. He has worked in various hospitals and mining sector as a diagnostic radiographer. He is passionate about ethical practices, research and trauma imaging. He hopes to impact in health education leadership and policies.
He later Joined Durban University of Technology for his master’s degree, in this duration, he served as head of clinical services in the department as well as a lecturer. Before completing his studies, he was prematurely appointed at University of Pretoria as a clinical lecturer in 2014. With his passion of research, he embraced the opportunity at the University of Pretoria, a leading university in intensive research in Africa.
He has obtained seven publications in peer reviewed journals. This includes a chapter of a book which is the only ethics textbook for healthcare professionals in an African context. The book was published by prestigious; Springer Nature publishing company. Mr Thambura is in process of completing his PhD at The University of Pretoria. He has been involved in the Department as a supervisor of undergraduate research and postgraduate (honours students) as well as interdisciplinary teaching. He is a clinical coordinator for undergraduate students as well as a coordinator for the postgraduate (honours programme).
He is involved in the School of Health Care Sciences level in reviewing and examining proposals and dissertation for master’s students. At the School of Healthcare Sciences, Mr Thambura is also involved in interdisciplinary teaching and research supervision.
He is the project leader for community engagement activities focussing in combating non-communicable diseases, teenage pregnancy and gender-based violence in Mamelodi community in Pretoria. Significantly Mr Thambura is the recipient of prestigious 2019 Merit award at School of healthcare sciences, for his research contribution to the University of Pretoria. He has received various award which includes scholarships and research funding from private companies and research foundations nationally and internationally.
