MOMBASA COUNTY VENUE FOR RASCO 2023

Welcome to Mombasa the second largest city in Kenya, lying along Indian Ocean Coastline. The city is the centre of the coastal tourism industry.

The original Arabic name is Manbasa; in Kiswahili it is called Kisiwa Cha Mvita (or Mvita for short), which means “Island of War”, due to the many changes in its ownership and the battles that brought about the changes in ownership.

Mombasa Moi AvenueMombasa, a melting pot of languages and cultures from all sides of the Indian Ocean, waits like an exotic dessert for travelers who make it to Kenya’s coastline. Having more in common with Dar es Salaam than Nairobi, Mombasa’s blend of India, Arabia and Africa cultures can be intoxicating, and many visitors find themselves seduced by East Africa’s biggest and most cosmopolitan port despite its grime and sleaze, which somehow only adds to the place’s considerable charm.

Mombasa is one bestowed with such beautiful beaches with white sandy beaches and a deep historical and cultural heritage that most travelers cannot resist the beauty of the beaches and the history surrounding this city is simply marvelous.

The choice of RASCO hosting city is based on SORK members’ preference. Most RASCO have been hosted in Mombasa city which is the most popular destination for anyone wishing to blend fun with education.

RASCO 2023 therefore was proposed to be held in Mombasa once again.

Mombasa people are quite hospitable and humbled. Mombasa is warm and humid with average temperatures of about 25°C (76°F) during the month of September to October.

Visitors are encouraged to wear light. As we welcome our visitors yet again to Mombasa, please grab few Kiswahili accents such as “Hakuna matata’’ (No problem), “Jambo” (Hello) and “Asante” (Thank you).
